On Maiduguri's blocked drainages, flooded homes

Poor drainage can lead to flooding, resulting in property loss, and people may even be forced to move to escape floodwaters. #YIRNE: Children running after a convoy of government officials begging for money to be thrown at them

Image
Recently at an IDP camp in Maiduguri, a group of children we're seen running after a convoy of government chanting "Yirne, Yirne", meaning spray it, spray it, in Kanuri. That was the slogan that was popularised by former governors of Borno state during election campaigns as well as on regular days when their vehicles ply the streets of Maiduguri. The governors would pull out a bunch of cash and spray it into the air for their supporters and those lined up to hail them. As dangerous as it seems, many persons, including adults and kids, do enjoy the act of Yirne. Many had been injured, trampled upon and bruised during the deadly struggle to catch the Naira notes. Sadly, Yirne has become a norm for everyone, including kids in IDP camp. Watch video here👇 https://twitter.com/TheHumanitari14/status/1311936339667976192?s=19

An Empty Street in Maiduguri

Image
When the dawn comes in Maiduguri, the sun rises earlier than the inhabitants.  What the sun sees at this fragile brevity of time can only be seen by early risers...those who divorce the beds' cossiness at the wee hours to hit the road. Just like this #BusyLense.Com reporter.
